Whole30, Day 26: In the Home Stretch
We are definitely in the home stretch now! And as we approach the finish line, I’ve been thinking a lot about what’s next both in terms of reintroductions and to what extent I want to do them, and in terms of what aspects of this will be incorporated permanently into my lifestyle. I’ll save most my thoughts on this for a whole separate ‘what’s next’ post, but I do know that I want to hold onto some of the habits I’ve developed. I’ve heard the words ‘after your diet’ more times than I can count. And yes, some things will be different once these thirty days are up. But I won’t be one of those Whole30ers who celebrates with a pizza, a pint of ice cream and a margarita at midnight of day 31. In fact, I won’t be celebrating finishing the Whole30 with food and drink at all. I will be celebrating by taking pride in the willpower I have displayed and the mindful eating habits I have developed.
According to the Whole30 Timeline I should be feeling: Tiger Blood! Your energy is through the roof, you’ve kicked the cravings, you’re experimenting with new, delicious food, and you’ve finally got the time to notice that your clothes fit better, your workouts are stronger, and you are generally more awesome.
How I’m feeling: Normal.
Pre-workout Snack: Boiled egg and a bit of almond butter
Breakfast: Spaghetti squash stuffed with leftover Moroccan chicken and avocado with a power green salad, berries and almond balsamic dressing
Lunch: Coconut Meatballs with Polynesian Sauce and Spicy Coconut Curry Green Beans
Pre-workout Snack: Leftover mashed plantain with a bit of almond butter
Dinner: Garlic Butter Spaghetti Squash with Shrimp and Asparagus
This is so funny. We are on day 1 and my husband was just saying at breakfast that he was looking forward to getting Fro-yo when this is all over. Mind you, I said this is day one. We’ve been eating semi-whole30 for a couple days, but he’s a cheater, so he hasn’t been 100% by any means. My plan when the 30 days are up is to eat much cleaner than we were in the past.
I think the further you go into the Whole30, you will find one of two things. Either you will feel deprived by the regiment and want a treat more and more each day, or you will feel empowered by the healthy foods and want a treat less and less. I was SHOCKED to find myself in the ice cream aisle yesterday looking for an ice cream for day 31, my dairy reintro day, and ultimately walking away because I just really didn’t want anything.
