Whole30, Day 19: Cheese and Whine

If I hear the words “your diet” one more time, I might scream.  I don’t like to think of this as a diet; that implies deprivation, which I don’t feel accurately sums up the Whole30 at all.  I am eating healthy, whole foods and lots of them.  Yes, I am making some sacrifices, but I am not depriving myself.  Plus, constantly hearing “your diet this” and “after your diet that” just reminds me of what I can’t have.

Speaking of, here is Today in Things Jo Couldn’t Have:

Tonight we went to Sona, the new wine and cheese bar in our hood, for my good friend Holly’s birthday.  And I whined about the fact that I couldn’t have cheese.  No, actually I didn’t.  Yes, it looked delicious; amazing fresh cheese, chocolate fondue with sea salt and bourbon.  I’m sure it tasted amazing.  But you know what?  I probably would have felt bad about eating it later.  And you know what I didn’t feel bad about later?  The giant sweet potato slathered in cinnamon and almond butter or the chicken sausage fried in coconut oil.  I still got to go out and have a great night out with friends, but without the food guilt, the tab or the hangover.  I’m seeing some benefits to this program, even if they don’t include tiger blood.

According to the Whole30 Timeline I should be feeling:  Tiger Blood! Your energy is through the roof, you’ve kicked the cravings, you’re experimenting with new, delicious food, and you’ve finally got the time to notice that your clothes fit better, your workouts are stronger, and you are generally more awesome.

How I’m feeling: Exhausted today.  Didn’t get enough sleep and had a fever and raging headache in the afternoon.

Okay,lLet’s move on to the important part.  Today in Things Jo Can Have:

Breakfast: Three egg omelette with spaghetti squash and chicken sausage with blackberries with almond butter and coconut milk (looks weird, tasted good!)

photo 1Lunch: My office ordered Chipotle for lunch.  There’s only one thing that’s Whole30 compliant, but man was it delicious!  Carnitas salad with lettuce, pico de gallo, red tomatillo salsa and guacamole.

photo 2Dinner: Chicken sausage with mustard, sweet potato with cinnamon, almond butter and ghee and a side salad
