Thai X-ing and How to Cheat in High School Social Studies
Whenever I have Thai food, I am reminded of a desperate act of deception from my junior year of high school (I hope my Advanced World Cultures teacher isn’t reading this!) Our assignment was to create a menu reflecting the cuisine of a selected country or region and to cook one of the items to bring in to share with the class. Well, this was before I had taught myself to cook and having waited until the last minute, as usual, I found myself in a bit of a pickle. Luckily, the Thai Garden solved my dilemma. A quick telephone call later I had several to-go orders of their signature dessert: mango and sticky rice. I transferred it into a Tupperware, solidifying the homemade appeal, and shared it with my classmates who had slaved over baklava and homemade naan. I’m pretty sure that by this point I have cooked enough ethnic cuisine that I don’t deserve to have my high school diploma revoked, but I’ll never forget my little ploy.
Well, I recently enjoyed an abundance of delicious Thai cuisine with a fabulous group of lady friends at the no longer so secret hole-in-the-wall known as Thai X-ing. Seating is limited, although they have expanded to a larger upstairs area where we were very comfortable on window-side couches. Reservations are somewhat hard to come by, not only because seating is limited, but also because you often must leave a message and wait for a call back. It’s BYOB, which makes the already affordable restaurant ($30 pp for eight dishes) an even better deal. Go hungry, wear loose pants, expect to eat fast (service is a bit rushed) and plan to have lunch for a couple of days! I’m pretty sure that I couldn’t present most of their dishes as my own, although the meal did end with mango and sticky rice should you ever find yourself needing to fake it!

By round three, I was too full to bend over to take photos. We also enjoyed a lovely tofu curry, delightful mixed vegetables and a tofu noodle dish that I was fine being too full to eat much of.
This post is hilarious. Thanks for making me smile bright and early. I also played a devious trick in a KHS history class… I’ll try to remember to tell you all about it sometime. Love you!!

I love mango sticky rice AND all your crazy antics from back in the day. Hope you havent mellowed out 😉
No worries, mellow is not in my nature.
Whichever of us wasn’t the one who gave you the emergency ride to the Thai restaurant should ground you!
I think that whichever parent drove me should be grounded. Except maybe not, because I think it was Mom and we have dinner plans tonight.
