Takeout Tuesday: Featuring a Vegan Feast from Chef Nadine
A couple weeks back, I told you about our Periodic Table dinner featuring Chef Nadine. Well, when she passed around coupons at the end of the night for her catered vegan meals, it got me thinking: Takeout Tuesday! I love introducing people who don’t always eat vegan to just how delicious vegan cooking can be, and I knew that my TT crew are the type to be open to a new experience.
While the food was delightful, one of the highlights of this particular Takeout Tuesday was the conversation. While we usually move to Cards Against Humanity after finishing up our meal, this week we got caught up in a wonderful dialogue about the events going on in Ferguson, which evolved into conversation about larger issues of race and class in our country. After everybody went home, I couldn’t stop thinking about how grateful I am to have friends so eager to sit around the dinner table on a Tuesday night and engage in a lengthy conversation about issues that are tough but so necessary to discuss.
It’s lovely, really.
But I do want to tell you about the food too! I had to do things a bit differently than we generally do, since I had to get everyone’s orders to Nadine about a week in advance. But other than the parking ticket Courtney got picking up our grub, everything went even smoother than I anticipated. Everything came packaged up and ready for the microwave, and we had the food here before folks even arrived.
I decided to keep with the vegan theme for our apps, with homemade hummus and guacamole. I don’t use recipes for either of these and more, I just put it in a food processor/bowl and mix things in until it tastes how I want. The weird looking red roots in a bowl are carrots from my CSA, and they were actually delicious.
