Directions
One of my favorite parts of cooking a recipe from every country in the world is learning a little bit about their culture and tradition. So when my good friend Adi reached out to invite me and some other lady friends to share in a Bulgarian tradition to celebrate Baby Bastian, you better believe I was super excited! In Bulgaria, when a baby is 40 days old the mom invites the women in her family and close friend group to essentially ‘give’ the baby wishes for good health. One of the women brings a homemade round bread, and they all break the bread around the baby and each gives the little one a blessing of health. I was especially excited to have the honor of making the bread! The round loaf is quintessential to Bulgarian culinary tradition and central to various rituals and customs, a symbol of hearth and hospitality and the cornerstone of various celebrations. It’s really a quite simple bread, the most important recipe is the love!
