Monday Morning Meeting: Pie, Purple, Kubb and Bubbles
Friday we had a pie contest for our office’s June birthday party. I was the judge.
Dinner was a spicy tofu dish at Truckeroo. Because Korean food and beer is clearly the best way to prepare for a race.
We were up bright and early to run with the Purple Stride with team Helena’s Ravens. It was a wonderful race, honoring those who have died of pancreatic cancer and raising money to help find a cure. Our team raised well over $5k for the 5k!
Our team was running in memory of our friend Annika’s sister Helena, who lost her battle with pancreatic cancer three years ago this week. I’ve run a lot of races, but this was the first I’ve done with a team with such a strong connection to the cause, which made running it all the more meaningful.
I didn’t have a strong run (tummy was definitely feeling the previous nights meal), but finished in 24:14 at a 7:48 pace, cutting 10 minutes and 47 seconds from my previous 5k PR. No, you didn’t read that wrong. I’ve only run one 5k ever, back in 2005 before I even liked running. Man, was I a speed demon.
Afterwards, Annika had everyone over for a lovely cookout, complete with gourmet Hors d’oeuvres and plentiful bubbly.
Otis taught us how to play Kubb, a traditional Swedish lawn game that involves throwing batons to known down wooden blocks, and ideally not hitting the other team with said batons.
Sunday, we headed to Local 16 for a very bubbly Oxford College reunion brunch. It was great to catch up with these awesome folks.
These babies seriously just. kept. coming.
I wrapped up the weekend by making Father’s Day dinner for Matt. We started with a vegan spanakopita with garlicky almond feta. So simple and so delicious.
And for dessert? A very decadent deep dish oatmeal nutella cookie pie.
