Monday Morning Marathon Meet-Up: Week 7
Our runs are starting to get up there in distance now. This week’s long run was only a two-mile increase, but for some reason I draw a line between “less than a half marathon” and “more than a half marathon.” Perhaps because I do half marathons from time to time and they don’t seem like that big of deal. But anything above that? Well, I haven’t run anything above that since my marathon over two years ago. I suppose we better get used to it, because from here on out it’s a half marathon or more, pretty much every week. Sounds kind of crazy when you put it like that.Scheduled: 29 miles
Actual: 26 miles
This was not a particularly fun run. It was pretty much constant hills.
I suppose that may have been inevitable where we are, but I would have preferred not to run 14 miles alongside the highway. With no sidewalks.
Oh, hi truck! I guess I should take comfort that the fact that you’re honking at me means you must see me!
Long Run Summary:
You will notice the break halfway through the run. Courtney’s right knee started acting up, so he called his Mom to pick him up from the Quick Trip and I kept running (one awesome wife award, coming right up!). For some reason whenever I try to pause my runs, my Map My Run app resets. Hence two runs recorded. Regardless, this was a little adventure of its own because I guess he didn’t do too great of a job describing which QT he was at, and his poor mama couldn’t find him. As soon as I got home, I hopped in the car to go scour the neighborhood for my missing husband, who eventually ran/walked/limped his way home about six miles.
Pre-run dinner: Pasta with bread and my weight in cheese. And red wine. AKA Heaven.
Pre-run breakfast: Two pieces wheat toast with peanut butter and jelly; 1/2 banana (bananas really do seem to prevent cramping– going to make sure to have those before every long run, like I used to)
Hours of sleep: 9
Start time: 11:30am
Weather: About 40 and sunny. Good running weather.
Route: Pretty much straight up and down hills along highways in Georgia, with no sidewalks. Terrible.
How I felt: Honestly, not good at all. Ouch.
Highlight of run: New found appreciation for the wonderful running routes in D.C.
Injuries, aches or pains: Severe pain in my right foot. I think it’s my bunion. Frustrating, because everything else feels great. No knee pain, sore squads, etc. Could be a problem later on, or could just totally go away on its own. We’ll see. In the meantime I’ll just keep running through it.
Post-run brunch: Not brunch, but a wonderful Spanish feast in the evening: manchego, croquettes and DAD’S PAELLA!
