Monday Morning Marathon Meet-Up: Week 15
I am afraid I do not have good news to report. I was unable to run this week. At all. My foot hurt to walk on, so running was just out of the question. It does seem to be improving, but not quickly enough. I tested it out by running a mile on it on Saturday, and while I was able to complete the mile my foot did hurt by the end. I’m a bit mystified by the cause, an that it came on so fast. At first I though plantar fasciitis might be the culprit, but from what I’ve read that comes on more gradually and is most painful in the morning when you first walk on it. This becomes more painful the more I walk on it. It’s also not just the heel, but up the side of the foot. It almost feels like cramping. I know, you’re probably thinking, “well go to a doctor and find out!” But whenever I go to doctors, they tell me things I already know and not to do things I want to do, and then charge me a boatload for the advice. So I’m going to hold off for the time being.
As for the marathon, I admit that my prospects are not looking good. I am going to see how it does this week, and if it’s feeling better do a 20 miler on Saturday. I know that 20 miles 2 weeks before race day is not ideal, and really doesn’t give me a lot of time to taper, but at this point that my be my best option. Otherwise my longest run will have been 19 miles, 5 weeks out from race day. If nothing else, I hope that I can at least do the half… and the other half that I paid an arm and a leg to run at the end of April. I think Courtney has given up on the prospect of running the full marathon, although reluctantly. With the way his knee has been acting up, he’s not sure if he’ll even be able to do the half.
The timing of these injuries is kind of ironic, after I had just been raving about what an amazing thing the human body is. Here we are, having put in weeks of training and sacrifice, and neither of our bodies seem to want to cooperate. It’s frustrating indeed.
