Messy Kitchen Supper Club
The Messy Kitchen Supper Club is something I’ve been talking about doing for years, but the concept behind this supper club has really come to fruition in recent months, drawn inspiration from a very successful Friendsgiving, organizations like Conflict Kitchen, and my current culinary journey around the world. I love nothing more than having my table surrounded by family and friends, but I also want to use this opportunity to do good in some small way with each meal. Additionally, I think we find ourselves at a time that cultural understanding is of the utmost importance – and we can achieve that through food!
“Food has always been used as a bridging tool throughout many cultures throughout history. It takes out some of the stigma and some of the politics. It helps people reach a new level of understanding about a different culture. Food makes everything approachable.” [Washington Post]
I will prepare a meal from one or more countries and select a charity that is doing work in those countries, asking dinner guests to make a donation toward that charity as the cost of the meal. The time and cost of the meal will be my donation, so 100% of the proceeds will go straight to the cause.
April 15th – #NoBan Part I: Yemen, Iran and Syria
Charity: International Rescue Committee ($400 raised!)
May 20th – #NoBan Part 2: Sudan, Libya and Somalia

March 2nd – More Than A War: Iraq & Afghanistan
Charity: No One Left Behind ($330 raised!)
*Please note, this is a suggested donation because people seem to like direction. You should feel free to give more or less than this amount, as is appropriate for you at this time. I do not ever want the cost to be a barrier to participating in Supper Club, so literally no donation is too small!
