A Fat but Fast Weekend in Philly: Cheese Steaks & A New PR
This weekend I went up to Philly for a girls weekend and to run the Broad Street Run, the largest 10-mile road race in the U.S. With over 40,000 people, this. race. was. huge. Seriously, it makes the Cherry Blossom look like a jog with a couple of your friends.
Although the race was only a 10-miler, the weekend was a marathon when it came to eating. On Saturday, after giving ourselves a couple of hours to digest out late night pizza and cheese steaks and pick up our race packets, we headed to Reading Terminal Market to do a little cheese steak and roast pork sandwich tasting.
After tasting some Italian meats and taking a break to lounge in Rittenhouse Square Park, we headed to Federal Donuts for some fried chicken and donuts. Then we took a break to watch the Derby in a biergarten before going in search from some good Italian food as a pre-race meal, which we most definitely found at L’Angolos.
I was a bit concerned I’d be weighed down by the plethora of good eats. Although if I had been it would have been worth it, it seems Philly cheese steaks were good fuel. I cruised to the finish line, beating my previous 10-mile PR by 38 seconds o finish with in 1:17:27 with a 7:44 min/mile pace and a smile.
That wraps up my last 10-miler of the season! Next up: Capitol Hill Classic 10K on May 17th.
